there's a cross near Lea Hill (where the hollywood sign is). Nobody seems to know what it's doing there. Incidentally, the Hollywood sign was initially a real-estate advertising gimmick, and read Hollywoodland, which funnily enough was what Hollywood was called then. A romantic tale goes that a floundering starlet climbed one of the letters of the sign (presumably the H) and hurled herself to her death below, her last act of melodrama.
