This is called maiden lane. Once upon a time, "maidens" used to lean out from the balconies you see and tout their wares (hint, pamela anderson has two big uns, BiWares I guess you could call em. Or Twin Peaks. heh heh.) to gentlemen who apparently doubled as plumbers I think. One of the locals mentioned them loving to plug holes. Or was that plugging holes with love? Heh. Incidentally, Twin Peaks of telly fame - who remembers that? I loved it! - is in san francisco. Or at least, there's a place called twin peaks in san francisco. I never made it there though, my feet gave out somewhere along union street, where my brain called for a timeout and forced me protesting into a cinema to watch The Forgotten.
