The Altar itself was a work of art so intricate and ornate it impressed some of the indians into conversion to the awe and majesty of this new God who had arrived in their land. (Shock and Awe tactics, only less violent?) Look back now at the first photo of the church and note the ceiling, which reflected the colours (something to do with basket weaving) of the Indians who built this church. The entire church was built by Indians, although planned and engineered by Franciscan monks (spanish)
